Local CPU

A Local CPU is a processor that resides in the same chassis as the Ethernet module. Enter the CPU slot of the controller in the CPU Slot/CIP Route

(CPU slot)

Remote CPU (Single Hop)

A Remote CPU Single Hop is a processor that resides in a remote chassis that is connected by a single network bridge.

When addressing a Remote CPU, you must specify a CIP Route path to the controller

1.<slot>.<channel>.<node>.1.(CPU Slot)

CIP Route path segments

1.

First segment:
Backplane (always 1.) of the local chassis

<slot>.

Second segment :
Slot of the local chassis where the bridge network card resides

<channel>.

Third segment:
A. or B. (Channel A or B)

<node>.

Fourth segment:
This is the network node of the remote chassis.

1.

Fifth segment:
Backplane (always 1.) of remote chassis

(CPU Slot)

Sixth segment
This is the slot where the CPU resides in the remote chassis

Example: Slot 2(1756-CNB)->CHA ~~~ Node 6(1756-CNB)->Backplane->(CPU Slot) 0

Remote CPU (Multi-Hop)

A Remote CPU Multi-Hop is a processor that resides in a remote chassis that is bridged by 2 or more networks.

CIP Route path segments

1.<slot 1>.<channel 1>.<node 1>.1.<slot 2>.<channel 2>.<node 2>.1.<slot n>.<channel n>.<node n>.1.(CPU Slot)

Example: This example contains 3 hop segments to access a CPU in slot 5

Segment 2

Segment 3

Node 2->Backplane->Slot7(1756-ENET)
